The core principles of the Asian “confinement” tradition is to help your body recover after the trials of childbirth, while also bolstering it for the fourth trimester challenges like fatigue, blood loss, and breastfeeding. Each week focuses on different stages of your recovery.
This is a sample 7-day menu, representing a more traditional-oriented East Asian recovery plan for the first week post-delivery. It is specifically designed to detox your body, bolster nutrients depleted from giving birth, and provide soothing but filling nourishment for your gut. If you choose to breastfeed, meals can also feature ingredients designed to promote lactation. Future weeks may include iron-rich ingredients for blood replenishment.
This menu can be customized to your tastes and cravings, but your day will always include breakfast, lunch, dinner, a tea or broth, and a little treat.
